The 2013 FUFA – MTN inter region tournament enters the semi final stage on Friday.
Defending champions Eastern, who are finding this year’s campaign tough, will face tricky side Mid North in one of the semifinal ties, while in-form Buganda, the only team to win all their three group games, take on West Nile.
Inaugural 2009 champions Kampala were on Thursday ejected by a determined West Nile side 1-0 thanks to a goal from Juma Akuma.
Hosts Kitara who had lost to Kampala on Wednesday were humiliated by Mid North 3-0 when Douglas Ochan netted a hat-trick to silence his critics.
“We think this is the chance for us to take this trophy to northern Uganda,” a happy Ochan told reporters after the match.
North East also managed a 2-1 victory over Western although the two teams failed to make it to the semifinals.
Coach Edward Goloola’s Buganda showed why they are favourites to win this year’s Cup when they defeated defending champions Eastern 2-1 in a tough contest at the Boma ground.
Faisal Kivumbi and Hakima Mugerwa scored for the Bugunda team, while Martin Odong netted for Eastern. “We are not worried that we failed to top the group. We shall make sure we beat Mid North in the semi final,” said a confident Eastern coach Abbey Kikomeko.
The eight-team regional tournament is fully sponsored by MTN Uganda Limited and will climax on Saturday with the finals and play-off for third and fourth place.
The best teams will gets medals and cash prizes.
