Uganda’s new sports sensation Ronald Musagala clocked a time of 1:46:13 to win Heat 2 of the 800m race in the IAAF World Championships in Moscow Saturday.
The Kampala University led the field through the first 400m in 53.00 with American Brandon Johnson on his shoulder.
He qualified with the seventh fastest time of the heats where Ethiopia’s Mohammed Aman registered the day’s top mark of 1:44.93.
The first three runners in each race advanced together with the next six fastest finishers. The semi-finals will have 30 competitors.
Another Ugandan Juliet Chekwel will take part in the women’s 10000m final later today.
Besides Musagala, the team that left on Tuesday has Moses Kipsiro (5000m/10,000m), Philip Kipyego (5000m), Timothy Toroitich (3000m steeplechase (SC)/10,000m), Thomas Ayeko (10,000m), Jacob Araptany (3000m Steeplechase) Benjamin Kiplagat (3000m SC), Stephen Kiprotich (Marathon), Jackson Kiprop (marathon), Abraham Kiplimo (Marathon) and women – Sarah Nambawa (Triple jump) and Juliet Chekwel (10,000m).
