Residents of Kalisizo, Rakai district, are coming to terms with the shocking rape and killing of a 4 year old girl in broad daylight.
The victim Hailat Nakiganda, a daughter of Muhammad Sembatya and Immaculate Nabukeera, was reportedly gang-raped before being strangled by her assailants on Thursday morning.
Nakiganda had been sent by her father Sembatya to buy for him airtime from a nearby shop at about 10am.
The grief-stricken Sembatya told sympathizers that Nakiganda’s attack must have been premeditated because the road from which she was snatched is used by a lot of people.
Nakiganda’s lifeless body was found dumped in a bush a few minutes after she had left home on her way to the shop.
Sniffer dogs led police detectives to the home of a man only identified as Wamala. No one was home.
Residents informed police that Wamala’s home had hosted several strangers to the area on Wednesday night. The visitors are said to have left early Thursday morning. It is suspected these visitors could have been part of the gang that attacked Nakiganda.
Police later managed to track down Wamala and his wife. Regina Nansamba, the officer in charge of Kalisizo police station, confirmed they are in custody.
She further reported that Nakiganda’s body was transferred to to Kalisizo Hospital for postmortem as investigations into her death begin.
26 people have so far been killed in 6 months in Rakai district. All the killings remain unsolved.
