Pre-season friendly

SCVU 4-2 Mukono Pirates

SCVU claimed a third straight pre-season friendly win following a 4-2 win over Mukono Pirates at Namboole Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The regional league side took the lead through Kiyizi Rashid just 47 seconds into the game.

The forward was gifted with an opportunity after Emma Kalyowa failed to clear a back pass. That was the fastest goal SCVU has conceded.

But the lead was easily levelled five minutes later. Noah Semakula smashed home from close range before Simon Okwi drilled a second minutes from the the break.

Several changes were made during the break with the introduction of Muzamir Mutyaba, Rajab Jooga and George Abege all making the second team.

The Pirates who had made a decent representation of themselves throughout soon restored parity from the spot. Kitata Alex sent Ronald Magomu the opposite way.

SCVU’s push for a winner was not resisted as persistent knocking at the opponent’s goal forced another penalty. Jackson Kibirige tucked that one home in the 89th minute. The midfielder would be involved in the fourth that Brian Ochwo placed into the far bottom right corner.

Okwi scores on debut

New signing Simon Okwi made his first appearance at training on Wednesday since penning a three year deal with SCVU and he was quickly involved in some action.

But the highlight for the forward was being thrown straight into competitive action and he barely hid why he was the worthy buy.

Okwi who was playing his first game on his first day at the club, also scored his first SCVU goal when he drilled a 30 yard freekick past Mukono Pirates’ custodian to hand SCVU a 2-1 lead in the pre-season friendly. SCVU went on to win 4-2.

“How lucky can I be!,”  he expressed.

“My first day at the club, my first game and my first goal. I am happy with that.

“We played well against the Pirates. I am happy I managed to score on my first day.”

Okwi joined from KCCA FC as a free agent and has since made it to the national team.

“I am actually looking forward to more club games.

“We played well today and I am confident we can only get better in the league.”
