Uganda Open gets Tusker Nod |GOLF

The  71st edition of the prestigious Uganda Amateur Open Golf Championship at the Entebbe Golf Club has received a massive boast following Shs.100m sponsorship deal from Uganda Breweries.

The Luzira based beer giants through its premium brand Tusker Malt Lager is putting back Ugandan golf on the regional map by sponsoring the Uganda Open for the third consecutive year with this year’s event scheduled for 5th – 8th September at the lakeside golf club.

“Golf is fast becoming a lifestyle preference for a considerable number of Ugandans and Tusker Malt Lagerwill continue with the sponsorship of premier golf events such as the Uganda Open,” Grace Nshemeire Gwaku, Uganda Breweries Limited Marketing Director told RED Pepper Online.

Set to be played over 18 holes, the Uganda Open will see over 200 international top-class golfers and unseeded local players in both amateur and professional ranks tee off in what is expected to be a competitive and exciting four-day competition.

“Uganda Open it is attracting a formidable field,” Amos Nzeyi, President of the Uganda Golf Union added.

The other notable players to watch out for will be reigning champion Philip Kasozi and in-form player Willy Deus Kitata, the 2009 winner Ssendaula, who won the tournament on the 18th hole against then amateur Vincent Byamukama at the Entebbe Golf Club.

Others to watch include Abbey Bagalana, Adolf Muhumuza, Lawrence Muhenda, Ronald Bukenya, Henry Lujja, Patrick Mwaka, Daniel Baguma, Titus Okwong, Happy Robert and the rest.

Last year’s winner in the professionals was Kenya’s Dismus Indiza.

This year’s event will see the Open swing off on September 3-7 with the Uganda Golf Union event expecting to having participants from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and also Professionals from Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Zambia.
