The closure of entries last weekend signaled the confirmation of top continental drivers in the15th edition of the VPower Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally 2013.
The rally due August 16-17 is the sixth on the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) calendar.
FMU President George Kagimu confirmed to Pepper Online edition that more than 44 crews from Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Rwanda and beyond had confirmed participation in Uganda’s prime motorsport event.
Reigning African champion and last year’s winner Mohammed Essa (Subaru N16) of Zambia leads the foreign deputation that also has the famous Tundo family from Kenya and Rwandese Giancarlo Davite (Evo10), who harbours an ARC title dream among others who will battle it out with Uganda’s best Jas Mangat.
The event will have a total distance of 441kms, 221 of which will be competitive.
There are a total of 11 Competitive Sections, which will be re-run over the course of the rally. The longest will be 48kms and the shortest 2.6kms.
Meanwhile, Fire and Safety Appliance Ltd (Fasal) on Wednesday joined the list of co-sponsors with a fire-fighting package worth Shs21m.
