Tanzania Premier League side Coastal Union have smashed their transfer record to sign Uganda midfielder Yayo Lutimba for over $30,000 on a two-year-deal.
The silky utility midfielder was one of the stars of Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) FC’s Tanzania pre-season two netting braces against the two mainland gaints Yanga and Simba.
On July 20, he struck twice in URA’s 2-1 win over Simba and followed it up three days later with a brace in URA’s 2-2 draw with Yanga.
Yayo, 21, joined URA from Express FC in June 2012 for a fee in the region of Sh15m.
“I am here to do my best and show what I can do,” Lutimba told Red Pepper Online on Wednesday after jetting in Dar es Salam.
“I left the airport (Entebbe) with the official on a flight to Tanzania where I will play in their final pre-season game on Friday then come back to Kampala for three days” Lutimba said on phone.
But it is understood Yanga were on the verge of adding the player to Uganda winger Moses Oloya who they signed last week. The club had lured Lutimba with a $15,000 sign-on fee but Coastal Union’s $20,000, an offer Lutimba and URA could not chase away.
“I follow Tanzanian football and I know the fans here are incredible,” he added.
Speaking shortly after the completion of the deal at Hotel Africana on Tuesday, Yusuf Akida Saad, the team manager of Coastal Union SC expressed his joy over the signing of the “star winger” who proved to Tanzanian sides his mighty during the pre-season tour.
