4GC Activists’ Trial Flops Again

The trial of 4GC activists that was slated for today at Kabale Chief Magistrate’s Court flopped again after all the defendants failed to appear in court.

Munyagwa (R) was Friday remanded to Ndorwa Govt prison. He is expected in Court today
Kawempe Division Mayor Mubarak Munyagwa (R) is also among those charged with inciting violence.

The activists who include Kawempe Division Mayor Mubarak Munyagwa, Ingrid Turinawe the FDC leader of the women league and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago are facing charges of inciting Violence.

They allegedly committed the offense on the 14th of July 2012 while at a rally held at Kabale Municipal Main stadium.
They are accused of inciting locals to injure four Police officers and damaging three of the force’s vehicles.

The defendant’s lawyers Wilfred Mulumba and Bwagi Jonathan told the grade two chief Magistrates court that their clients had been blocked by police as they left their homes in Kampala. They requested that the case be adjourned to the 11th of November 2013 when their clients will be able to appear in court.

The Magistrate considered the submission by the defence lawyers and adjourned the case up to the 11th of November 2013.

The is the second time that the trial has flopped .

On the 5th of August 2013, Kabale Chief Magistrates Court presided over Amos Kwizera adjourned the case to the 9th of September when Only Munyagwa appeared for the hearing.

Police had deployed heavily along the streets of Kabale town and Makanga Hill where the chief Magistrates Court is Located.  Anti riot Police officers on Pickups and on foot patrolled the municipality and surrounding area
