Mutoni Warriors Scoop First URU 7’s Circuit

Fast growing and much improved side Mutoni Warriors were crowned winners of the first circuit of the URU Sevens after defeating Rams in the main cup semi final. Mutoni Warriors drew 7-7 with Benghazi Rams but outsmart them scoring first in the added sudden death time.

Uganda sevens national team side who took on Heathens in the other main cup semi final beat them off and out of the main cup final14-7.

The Main Cup final between Uganda Sevens team and Mutoni Warriors was much compared to a mini game at training for the national team who defeated Warriors 24-12 but were in the competition for build up game trials ahead of the Safari sevens representation in Kenya late this month.

However the argument still on is that if Mutoni Warriors are declared winners of the first circuit the semi final cup result will have been regarded yet Uganda sevens tie with Heathens saw them eliminated at the semi final stage and this leaves the approved winner of first circuit in imbalance.

“We are trying to polish up for the Safari sevens slated for 21st this month in Nairobi, the Main cup semi final against Heathens gave us much better contention than the final although l can see playing in this circuit has helped us try to correct some errors,” Uganda Sevens coach Tolbert Onyango told Pepper Sport after the first circuit main cup final.

“We still have areas to improve and this is going to be our point of emphasis in the remaining week,” he added.

In other categories Buffaloes won the plate after defeating Impis 24-12, at semi final stage Buffaloes did eliminate Sheraton Stallions 24-5 and in the bowl final Kobs succumbed to G4S Sailors whip conceeding 12-5 with the latter bagging the bowl.

The Uganda Rugby Union sevens that have not been sponsored this year will have the next circuit played in Makerere this Saturday, third circuit will be at Kyadondo Rugby club while the fourth and final circuit will be played in Mbarara.
