Lochon met his death when a stray bullet him during a fierce fighting that involved gun fire exchange between the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Local Defence Unit (LDU).

A reliable source who preferred anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter confirmed to the Red Pepper online team that the UPDF ambushed the LDUs and civilians who were rearing their animals.

“When UPDF tried to stop the LDUs, they tried to flee the place with their animals and this resulted into a gun fire exchange among the defence units,” the source said.

The gun fire exchange is believed to have lasted for over 20 minutes, in the end the UPDF over powered the LDUs and civilians.

Lt. Jimmy Omara, the UPDF 3rd Division Spokesperson could neither deny nor confirm when contacted. He admits that there was a fight that ended with death without disclosing details. He however adds that the army managed to intercept the suspected rustled animals from Moroto district.

Okot Obwona, the Regional Police Commander Mt. Moroto Area, said on Monday the case had not been reported. He however, admits having heard the clash in what he called rumours.
