Great cause, one would say of the Kids of Africa Run for Fun but with the ever increasing number of runners since its inaugural edition held two years ago, the charity marathon is definitely evolving into a big deal for local runners.
Organised under Swiss African’s Village Foundation Kids of Africa on the lakeshore areas of Entebbe, Bwerenga, off Entebbe Road, come October 6 a number of elite athletes according to sources in Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) will take part in the 21km race.
“We are considering the national marathon team for the half-marathon,” the source intimated to RED Pepper in a phone chat.
“Every year, participation and growth of this event gets bigger,” event director Jason Edwards told reporters during a press launch at Sheraton Hotel on Wednesday.
Unlike the past editions, this year’s will include a half-marathon of 21km in addition to the 5km (U-10) and 10km (10-14 years) races near the shores of Lake Victoria. “We are adding the 21km so as to widen the scope of participants as well as helping professional runners prepare for the upcoming Kampala Marathon in November,” Edwards added.
Participants can register for Shs10000 at Lugogo Mall, Alliance Francaise, Grand Imperial Hotel Shopping Mall and Entebbe Golf Club premises. Athletes can also register at the Uganda Athletics Federation offices.
