Two armed robbers have been shot dead in a gunfire exchange with Police in Bugembe town council.
The duo was shot dead on Tuesday evening September 24 after they allegedly robbed a businessman 15 million shillings at gun point.
Their victim, Brian Kidoodo explained that three thugs armed with two sub machine guns intercepted him along Gabula road in Jinja central division just after he had withdrawn 15 million shillings from Diamond Trust Bank.
One of the thugs who trailed him on foot grabbed his hand, which was carrying the polythene bag containing the 15 million shillings at the junction of Main Street and Gabula road.
According to Kidoodo a fight ensued and the money fell on the ground. The thugs over powered him and made away with the money at gun point
They jumped onto a motorcycle registration number UDQ O73A and sped off towards Bugembe town council.
Kidoodo immediately notified police, which swung into action and started pursuing the robbers. Police intercepted the robbers at Katende road in Bugembe town council leading to a gun fire exchange. Two robbers were gunned down forcing the remaining thug to flee.
Samson Lubega, the Busoga region police spokesperson said that they recovered two AK47 guns and the getaway motorcycle used by the thugs.
It is not clear, whether police also managed to recover the money. The exhibits were taken to Jinja central police station for safe custody
