Uganda’s most successful rugby club and league champions MTN Heathens’ skipper Alex Mubiru is optimistic his side will put up a good show in Kenya when they face Kenya’s league winners Nakuru Athletics club Martin Kaddu reports.

The two regional giants tackle in a newly introduced two legged East African Rugby Super Cup that is played by Kenya and Uganda top rugby league winners.

The Ugandan elite side that left Kampala on Thursday by road with a 27 contingent of 24 players and 3 officials led by team manager Emma Baine will be playing the Kenyans this Saturday in Nakuru before the return leg on October 19 at Kyadondo rugby grounds.

“The boys are in good shape for the game since we want to collect a good result from away and we seal the business in front our darling crowd at Kyadondo”, noted Mubiru who has led his side to this year’s league, Uganda Cup and sevens championships and he attributes the success to team work.

Mubiru, 26 who featured for the Rwenzori Ugandan franchise that played in Bamburi Series and lost to the Kenyan opposition in groups and finals says, they well mastered the opponent’s weakness and strength which and this will be a catalyst of their win.

Heathens that last visited Kenya as a club in 2004 where they beat Mwamba before losing to Ngamba has had two inclusions of winger Ronald Ssebuliba from Stallions and a prop Mpagi Bakuru from MUK Impis who are expected to be of a good cause in Nakuru. Brian Tebaruka boys exhibit their good team play and balanced performance of forwards and backs across the border.

The tournament chairman Edward Ochieng told the press before the team departed at Kyadondo that they intend to add other East African countries like Rwanda, Tanzania and Burundi with the growth of the tournament.

“After the two countries recognized the tournament in their annual calendar, it will offer top clubs the opportunity to show case their skills across the boarders”, noted Ochieng who confirmed shs8m for the winner and shs2m for the runners-up.

Ochieng added that the Nakuru tie will be courtain raised by Egerton Wasps vs Molo Lions game where as the Kampala tie will be curtain raised by Toyota Buffaloes vs Western Bulls.
