Kadaga Gives Kipoi Ultimatum To Appear In Parliament

Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament Honorable Rebecca Kadaga on Tuesday gave embattled Bubulo West lawmaker Hon.Tony Nsubuga Kipoi who was reportedly arrested in neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo until Wednesday to appear in parliament or ” face the consequences”.

Some sections of Ugandan media were recently awash with news that the legislature had been arrested in DR Congo although it is not yet clear why he was apprehended.

According to the Speaker, Kipoi wrote to her requesting for sick leave which she rejected.

“As you read in media about the arrest of Hon.Tony Nsubuga Kipoi in DRC, he wrote to me asking for sick leave which I rejected” said Kadaga.

She added; Hon.Tony Nsubuga Kipoi did not write to directly,so I asked him to write directly which he has not yet done”

Hon Kipoi now has until tomorrow to appear in parliament or face the repercussions as the Speaker stated on Tuesday.

“I have written, summoning him to appear in parliament by tomorrow, failure to do so, he will face the consequences ” Speaker Kadaga said.

Kipoi’s stay in the house has been marred by controversy. Late last year, news filtered in that Kipoi had been arrested  in Matimuku Guest House, in Fort Portal, Kabarole District, apparently on charges of treason.

He was remanded to Luzira prison for two months before being bailed out in February. He was later freed but what followed was a number of cases from illegal confinement of South African nationals to alleged drug-trafficking, to car theft.
