Kiira Young FC have moved to the top of the Ugandan league after a remarkable 1-0 over URA at Namboole National Stadium and went top above SC Victoria University who had no match scheduled for Friday.
Julius Ntambi scored the solitary strike in the first half to ensure Haruna Kebba’s youthful Kiira side went top of the league since joined the top tier League two seasons ago.
The skipper of the Bweyogerere-based club Richard Kassaga told RedPepper Online edition their target since the beginning of the league is to win it and they are now on course.
“We thank God for the win against URA, it was not easy. Our target is to win the league and now that we are on top, we want to do our best to remain there. It won’t be easy though, but we are good enough to win the league,” Kassaga declared.
The likes of Saidi Kyeyune, Erias Ssekisambu and Martin Kivumbi who scored in URA FC’s 4-0 win over CRO early this week all looked clueless after falling to Kassaga and company.
Meanwhile, the other matches on the cards yesterday struggling Bright Stars beat visiting Masaka LC FC 2-1 at Nakivubo with Hussein Mayanja and Jimmy Lule scored for Stars while Livingstone Lugemwa got a consolation for Masaka.
At Kavumba Police FC held Coach Moses Golola’s Vipers SC to a goalless draw.
Victory for Vipers SC would have seen them leapfrog defending champions KCCA FC and fourth placed Soana FC.
Action in the league will continue on Tuesday with Week 14 matches across the country.
