Sejusa Loses Parliament Seat
The Renegade General David Sejusa a.k.a Tinyefuza.
Ugandan Lawmakers have adopted the report from the parliament’s Rules, Privileges and discipline Committee recommending that renegade General David Sejusa ceases being a member of parliament.
Hon. Fox Odoi, the chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline, presented a Report on Sejusa’s conduct.
Sejusa, one of the officers representing the army in parliament has been holed up in London since April this year when he touched off a storm by alleging that government had a clandestine plot to bump off senior politicians and army officers opposed to the so called “Muhoozi Project”.
The so called “Muhoozi Project” is an alleged scheme to install President Museveni’s son, Brig Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as next head of state.
Parliament’s move to adopt the report means General Sejusa’s seat is now vacant.
The committee found that Sejusa was appointed as Senior Presidential Advisor/coordinator External Security Organization (ESO) and Internal Security Organization (ISO) by President Yoweri Museveni and missed 41 sittings from 21st May 2013 to 26th September.
The Committee also learnt that Gen. Sejusa was serving under several official capacities and thus multiple functional reporting lines.
The committee wants the process for Sejusa’s replacement be initiated in accordance with Article 81 (2) of the constitution.
Some legislators wondered why the president was not consulted to give his take on Sejusa’s absence.
“Sejjusa was appointed by the president, how come president Museveni was not called to give his take on Sejjusa’s conduct ” MP Majegere questioned.
MPs now want all lawmakers holding several public offices to face the disciplinary committee and be stripped of their seats.
Some MPs suggested that army officers should not be in parliament. Uganda’s parliament is one of the few in the world with army representatives in the national assembly.
The MPs adopted the report from the Rules committee on Sejusa that recommends the renegade General ceases being a member of parliament.
