‘Sick’ Kony In Surrender Talks With CAR

LRA’s fugitive leader Joseph Kony is said to be ill.

The government of Central African Republic (CAR) says it is in talks with Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony with the aim of his surrender.

Kony, who has been indicted for war crimes by the International Criminal Court in The Hague, waged a brutal guerrilla war against the Ugandan government in the north of the country for nearly two decades before fleeing with his fighters into the jungles of central Africa around 2005.

A CAR government spokesman told international media that Kony was in the country but wanted his security to be guaranteed before giving himself up.

This news comes a day after the African Union’s special envoy on the LRA, Francisco Madeira, told the UN Security Council he had seen reports that Kony was suffering from a “serious, uncharacterized illness”.

Madeira and the head of the U.N. Regional Office for Central Africa, Abou Moussa, who also briefed the council, said that Michel Djotodia, interim president of the virtually lawless Central African Republic, told them he had contacted Kony.

A 5,000-strong African Union Regional Task Force, supported by about 100 U.S. Special Forces, has been hunting Kony and his fighters. Most of them are thought to be hiding in jungles straddling the borders of Central African Republic, South Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo.

  1. “The government of Central African Republic (CAR) says it is in talks with Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony with the aim of his surrender.” The man is back to his game. He does that wherever he wants to re-organize. May be he plans to shift to another country.

  2. Sick troops.I don,t see any point that UN and Au peace keepers need to end Konys, war.The only thing you want is how will the month end and get your huge salary in the name of Konyi. If sincerely your serious why don’t you end the war like the one of DRC. This is a clear evidence that you feel happy when you hear the cries of the people tormented by the rebel Kony.

  3. I do not want Kony to surrender; I want him to die fighting, to actually lose the battle as he has already done, and suffer the full extent of the consequences of his criminal atrocities. If govt grants him any amnesty, protection or facilitation, those acts will be a slap in the faces of the millions massacred at his hands for the last two decades, and will fuel the conspiracy theory that “kony” was a bogeyman created by ….. to scare the masses, murder dissenters and justify unreasonable military expenditure. It will raise the same question that was asked of the Luweero Triangle; “who, and whose army, actually committed the cold blooded massacre of millions of innocent, unarmed citizens of my motherland?”
Let’s see how this one plays out.

  4. Now the Uganda govt through Okello Oryem say he won’t be taken to ICC but tried in Uganda …………UUUUuuummmm that sounds like a plot to protect some leaders whom we definitey want in the Hague because in Uganda they act with impunity that was just an idea don’t misquote me !

  5. Now when he surrenders, where UPDF people will be deployed ?Let him stay there as our brothers & sisters (UPDF)acquire employment opportunities.
