The traders took to the street this morning to protest the failure by UMEME to restore power supply to the area saying it was affecting their business. They blocked the road and burnt a heap of papers forcing anti riot police to intervene and disperse them with teargas.

Nasser road is occupied by traders majorly involved in the printing and publishing business.

Denis Sekirime, a machine operator at Nasser road told said that they have not had power since Sunday last week.

He further said that a team of UMEME officials visited the area and blamed the power problem on a faulty transformer.

However, Sekirime said that a new transformer was delivered this morning but it failed to work, which prompted them to take to the streets.

Some of other traders who spoke to Red Pepper online said that the power crisis is a big blow to their business since this is the time for their business boom.
