Dr. Kamanyire, who was bishop of Rwenzori from 1981 to 2000, died on Saturday morning at Case Clinic in Kampala after suffering a stroke last month.

In a funeral programme released by the office of the Bishop of Rwenzori, there will be a funeral service today at St. Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe. The body will then proceed to St. Andrew’s Archdeaconry Humura, Kyejonjo district for prayers.  The casket will proceed to St. Paul’s Church Nyantungo, in Kyejonjo town council for an overnight vigil.

On Tuesday morning, the Bishop’s body will be taken to his home in Bukwali, Fort Portal Municipality. On Wednesday, the body will then be taken to St. John’s Cathedral Kabarole for public viewing and an overnight vigil.

Burial will be on Thursday at the Cathedral cemetery, next to his wife Irene, who passed away in May this year.

Bishops who have been buried at the church compound include Abel K. Balya, the first African bishop in East and Central Africa who died in November 1979 and the late Bishop Patrick Kyaligonza, who died in February 2010 in a motor accident.
