UCU To Host University Games

Uganda Christian University (UCU) officially launched the 2013 National University Sports Federation of Uganda (NUSFU) Games Championships on Tuesday. The Games will be held from 15th to 21st December at UCU, main campus in Mukono.

23 Universities including defending champions Ndejje and 2776 athletes will converge at UCU for the games next month.

While addressing the sports scribes today at UCU, the Chairman Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Rev. Milton Tweheyo said that the Institution is more than ready to host the games.

‘We have planned well enough for the games and we are confident the teams will enjoy their stay at UCU’ said Tweheyo.

Rev Tweheyo also revealed that they will use the games gauge themselves for the 2014 East African University Games which UCU will host

“We want to excel to achieve our target of hosting the East Africa Inter University games in December 2014’ added Tweheyo.

Tweheyo also said that the athletes will be required to adhere to the Games’ rules and regulations.

The Games will also be used by UCU to mark 100 years of Bishop Tucker Theological College.

At the same function was the Vice President NUSFU Mr. Vincent Kisenyi who thanked UCU for accepting to host the 2013 Games.

“The hosts are on the right track for the 15th Edition of the NUSFU Games. It is an expensive venture to host such games but NUSFU will give UCU support’ said Kisenyi.

The sports scribes were taken around for a tour of the sports facilities that will be used next month. The two new netball courts, handball venue and Lawn tennis court are all expected to be ready in a fortnight’s time. Teams will participate in 16 disciplines: Football, Basketball, Rugby, Netball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Badminton, Athletics, Chess, Darts, Handball, Scrabble, Volleyball, Woodball and Karate.

Meanwhile DFCU bank announced five million shillings cash donation to the LOC to help in planning for the Games. DFCU Bank joins other partners Coca Cola and Centenary Bank.
