Instrumental defender/midfielder Dennis Iguma has made the cut for the Uganda Cranes squad for the 2014 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) slated for January 11 to February 1, 2014, in South Africa.
The SC Victoria University player had been ruled out for the tournament because of a nagging injury, but head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojvic told on Tuesday that the player is better and will be ready for the event.
“It is good news that Iguma has been responding well lately since he was sidelined over two months ago with injury,” said the coach.
Iguma, who scored the lone goal when the Cranes beat Tanzania 1-0 in the first leg of the CHAN qualifier in Dar es Salaam, missed several games recently, including the regional CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup.
The coach said Iguma’s club had helped so much to see that the player gets better quickly.
“He underwent the general medical tests that the whole team underwent, but we shall wait till Friday to know which players have issues and cannot be on the final squad,” added Micho.
Striker Frank Kalanda, who opted to travel to Vietnam for trials and missed the medical examinations, will also miss the CHAN tournament together with team captain Hassan Wasswa, who has since absconded from his Club KCCA FC and the national team.
The Cranes have been pooled alongside Morocco, Burkina Faso and Zimbabwe for the CHAN competition.
