Sudan 1-0 Rwanda
Rwanda have bow out of the GOtv Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup after losing 1-0 to Sudan in their second Group C encounter at City Stadium Nairobi.
Amavubi were beaten 1-0 by Uganda in the first match. With one match to go against Eritrea, prospects of upsetting the Ocean Boys are high. But even if they scrape through, chances of becoming best losers are virtually buried as Eritrea has to beat defending champions Uganda and Sudan beats Uganda and they beat Eritrea in last group game.
Ibrahim Salah netted his third goal at the ongoing CECAFA tourney as Sudan took a half time lead over Rwanda in the game.
The goal, netted on the half hour mark had all the writings of a sucker punch as Rwanda failed to capitalize on their dominant possession with the situation getting worse as Salah disposed Nshutiyamagara Ismael in the middle with the last man having no cover.
The lanky striker took just one touch before spotting the keeper off his line and fired Sudan ahead with a long range shot that gave Jean Luc Ndayishimiye no chance.
Before that Rwanda had twice survived; in the seventh minute the keeper was alert enough to tip round Hamid Nazar’s acrobatic shot from six yards out and the cross bar saved them from a 20th minute concession when Mohannad Tahir latched on to a long ball in the box but his shot bounced off the bar with the defence grounded.
