Mucureezi’s Late Strike Earns Mutundwe Point

Mutundwe Lions’s former St Mary’s Kitende striker Paul Mucureezi scored a late equaliser in the 1-1 draw with fellow FUFA Big League side The Saints FC on Saturday for the first draw between the two sides.
It was a tale of two halves with Saints dominating the first half and should have extended their lead had Farook Kawooya and Tonny Magala converted their chances.
In the second half, the Lions upped their game, became more physical and pinned the Saints in their own half.
The Lions took out Saints holding midfield Seif Khamis with a series of tackles. He was replaced, injured by Alex Kitata.
But still the Saints resisted and could have killed the game had Kitata converted on the counter. Brian Mutebi also fluffed his effort minutes later.
At 90 minutes the Saints were leading 1-0 but the Lions kept on looking. The referee then indicated he would play FOUR more minutes.
But referee kept the game going for an incredible 11 extra minutes and Saints held onto their advantage until Mucureezi pounced on an aerial ball deep into the Saints half, in the failing light, to slot home the equalizer.
The referee then ended the game immediately on the restart.
Next Up The Saints host Artland at Namboole.
