Odds Stacked Against Falcons In Game 6

Falcons1MTN Arena Lugogo

Men: Falcons vs City Oil 8.30

Women: UCU vs KCCA 6.30

Falcons dug themselves a hole when they allowed City Oilers to go up 3-2 in the 2013 Castle Lite  National Basketball League playoffs Finals at MTN Arena Lugogo. Heading into Game 6, Falcons face long odds of just getting to Game 7, much less winning the national championship.

In recent history only Warriors have gone into Game 6 of the NBL Finals down 3-2 in the series and then gone on to win the Trophy. Gad Etue’s side were last season knocked off by defending champions Warriors in seven games, as they had lost Game 5 and 6 for the series to wound up 4-2. Coincidentally, Falcons will hope this season there will be a game seven by beating City Oilers who hold a 3-2 series lead.

With series tied 2-2 going into the fifth game of seven and chance to edge closer to championship on the radar it was bound to get even better – indeed it was.

City Oilers overcame an erratic second quarter and scored 49 points in the next 20 minutes to beat Falcons 80-76 to pull within a game of winning the title in their debut season in Uganda’s premier basketball division.

Kami Kabange scored game high 24 points and picked 12 rebounds to lead the way for Oilers, Jimmy Enabu added 16 points, Samuel Kalwanyi contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds off the bench and James Okello chipped in with 13 points.

Finally, both teams have not won two games in a row and if Oilers manage to do that, record champions Falcons will have to wait for another 12 months to add to their six titles but Oilers formed three years ago and went on to win both Divison three and two champions could complete their fairytale if they win today’s decider.

Likewise, though UCU Lady Canons lost 84-48 in game 5  to KCCA Leopards for the most lopsided win in the best-of-seven playoffs finals, the University side could retain the women’s title with a game to spare if they beat the Leopards today.Oketcho
