The Opposition Forum for Democratic Change has unveiled Joyce Sebugwawo as it new acting national party chairperson. Sebugwawo who has been the vice chairperson of the party since February 2009 replace the late Sam Kalega Njuba.

On Friday last week, the party’s top management chaired by Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu, the FDC president tasked the four regional vice chairpersons to select a member among themselves to act as an interim chairperson.
They are expected to give the party a report on their position on the14th of January. However, this morning, Kevinnah Taaka, the FDC vice chairperson Eastern Uganda said they had agreed as vice chairpersons that Sebugwawo takes over as Interim chairperson until elections are held in February next year.
Sebugwawo says her priority is to mobilize more support for the party. She also she has the capacity to take on the role of National FDC chairperson.
According to sources that attended the Friday meeting the top management seemed bent on having Tony Anang Odur the National vice chairman Northern take the position. Anang says as party vice chairpersons all they can do is give Sebugwawo support in order to ensure that the party has enough support ahead of the 2016 general elections.
According to the four vice chairpersons including Patrick Baguma from Western Uganda they decided to give Sebugwawo the position because they believe she can play a huge role in ensuring party cohesion and the fact that the former chairperson was from Buganda.
The late Sam Njuba was very instrumental in bridging the gap between Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the leader of the opposition in Parliament after he lost to General Mugisha Muntu during the party presidential elections.
