Anglican Head & Kayanja Bro Blast Uganda, Nigeria Over Anti-gay Laws

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have written to the presidents of Nigeria and Uganda, after being asked about laws there penalising gay people.

The letter said homosexual people were loved and valued by God and should not be victimised or diminished.

Nigeria and Uganda have both passed legislation targeting people with same-sex attraction.

The letter is also addressed to all primates (heads of national Churches) in the worldwide Anglican Communion.

Archbishops Justin Welby of Canterbury and John Sentamu of York said the letter was a result of “questions about the Church of England’s attitude to new legislation in several countries that penalises people with same-sex attraction”.

In Nigeria this month, President Goodluck Jonathan signed into law a bill which bans same-sex marriages, gay groups and shows of same-sex public affection.

In Uganda, a bill allowing for greater punishments for gay people, and those who fail to turn them in to police, has been passed by parliament, but blocked – for now – by President Yoweri Museveni.

The laws have been heavily criticised by gay and human rights groups.

She said she had rarely seen a piece of legislation “that in so few paragraphs directly violates so many basic, universal human rights”.

In their letter, the archbishops reiterated their support for a document known as the Dromantine Communique, published in 2005 by the primates of the Anglican Communion.

The communique said: “We continue unreservedly to be committed to the pastoral support and care of homosexual people.

“The victimisation or diminishment of human beings whose affections happen to be ordered towards people of the same sex is anathema to us.

“We assure homosexual people that they are children of God, loved and valued by Him and deserving the best we can give – pastoral care and friendship.”

  1. Is this the same Bishop Ssentamu who said that Cameron would be acting as a dictator if he allowed gays to marry contraly to the teachings of the bible ?
    What a hypocrite !

  2. I think protestantism is dead. God would have not burnt Sodom and Gomorah if homosexuality was good. Let the Archbishop vote a bible verse which supports homosexuality and I will quote several which are against it. The clergy should promote the law of God other than the sin tolerating human rights. God does not love homosexuality. He only tolerates them so that they come to repentance. Bravo Goodluck Jonathan. Our Museveni should follow suit.

    1. It is high time that people shun away from these hypocrites who come in the name of religion. Religion has for a long time been used as a vessel to destroy the values of a black race. We are the chosen children of God, so let us do what our Father in Heaven requires of us.

    2. Have you shaved your face recently? Have you ever worn clothes made of different kinds of fibres? Have you had sex outside of marriage? Did you let your daughter live instead of stoning her to death if she had sex before marriage? if so you’re violating the law of God the exact same as any homosexual couple having sex. Have you ever eaten any shellfish such as shrimp, crab, lobster or any other such creature? If so you too have committed the exact same sort of sin as homosexual couples, both eating shellfish and same-sex sex are “abominations” according to Leviticus in the bible.

Sodom and Gomorah weren’t destroyed by God for same-sex sex, they were destroyed for their brutal refusal to offer hospitality to strangers. If you had ever actually read the biblical story you’d know that since the bible clearly states they were destroyed for their refusal to offer the strangers hospitality, the angels said so themselves. Hospitality was a vital thing back in those days especially in desert or near desert areas where travelers could only survive by the hospitality of strangers. The critical importance placed on hospitality for strangers is shown by the righteous family hosting the visiting angels offering their own daughters for the mob to rape instead of their guests.

I’m not particularly religious but I’ve read the bible several times
from front to back and studied large parts of it, the Old testament and
the Gospels, in great detail and understand what it actually says far
better than most “bible thumpers” who so publicly claim to be so
righteous while refusing to follow the basic teachings of Jesus.

People who turn to the bible to support their hatred have obviously never read the bible let alone understand it, you need to understand the society it was written for to understand what much of it actually means. The teachings of Jesus are mostly universal for any society but much of the rest of the bible was specifically written for the society at that time. Much of the New Testament was written several hundred years after Jesus’s ascension by men living in a different society than the one of the old testament and Gospels.

Jesus preached love for all people and made a point of socializing and helping the hated social outcasts to set an example for others to follow. Its the most basic teaching of Jesus that so many people who claim to be Christian absolutely refuse to follow today. The Gospels are the most read part of the bible since they’re the teachings of Jesus yet their message is totally lost on so many so-called Christians.

Its extremely hyopcritical for people to pick and choose which parts of the bible they’ll follow, usually the parts that only affect other people especially social outcasts or others they hate, while dismissing out of hand so many other biblical laws that would affect them personally. all people are sinners yet the sins of some are singled out for special hatred while the sins of others are hushed up and hidden away. Such people, unlike homosexuals, were despised by Jesus, they were the “Pharisees” along with other prideful self-righteous men. Jesus had lots to say about about how wrong they were yet he never once had anything at all to say about homosexuals. If homosexuality was as big a deal as the gov’t and bishops of Uganda are making it out to be why didn’t Jesus have anything at all to say about it? Christianity is based on the teachings of Jesus yet so many, including church leaders, ignore His actual words and follow instead the words of mere men.

  3. The New World Order (NWO) on the arise.

In the john 5:43 Jesus says, I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive 44 How can ye believe, who receive glory one of another, and the glory that cometh from the only God ye seek not?

  4. Sentamu you’re a disgrace to human nature; I even wonder why Idi Amin didn’t finish you off!!

    1. Ssentamu is a snake holding on to his masion in York. Imagine an African man heading a white gang to lynch Mugabe. Why does he not lynch Blair first who with Bush killed thousands in Iraq?

  5. why doesn’t the bishop base his comments on the bible? I think every body(including the bishop) knows what happened to Sodom and Gomorah and why it happened.
