Six senior police officers from Lira have been suspended over various accusations including abuse of office.
The officers include Robert Ssemata, the Former Lira District Police Commander, Patrick Mawerere, the former officer in charge of Lira CPS, Joseph Kirabo, the OC Crime Lira Police, his deputy Bernard Agwee, Detective Corporal Godfrey Komakech and James Katushabe from Kasese CPS.
The suspension of the cops was revealed by Patrick Onyango, the deputy police spokesperson in Lira town, where he accompanied Kale Kayihura, the police boss on a special mission.
He says the affected officers shall resume work after the completion of investigations.
He also said Kayihura has transferred Ashraf Seiko Chemonges, the DPC Kasangati to Lira. Others transferred to Lira are Yiga Gonzaga who has been from police headquarters to Lira as OC crime, Bamwine Aloyius, and Jones Muhoozi.
On Friday Kayihura had announced that several officers countrywide would be transferred and others suspended from office. He was addressing hundreds of traders in Lira town at the Mayor’s garden following the escalation of armed robberies targeting local businessmen.
