Beleaguered Kampala city Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has today challenged the Inspector General of Police, General Kale Kayihura, to explain to the nation the source of intelligence reports that a group of youths had been mobilized to kidnap the mayor or members of his family and cause a chaos in the city.
Lukwago revealed this on social media on Tuesday morning demanding an explanation from the IGP on the alleged.
Yesterday, the police blocked a stakeholders meeting that had been called by the embattled mayor claiming that they had received information that a group of youths had been mobilized to cause mayhem in the city.
The mayor says some of friends had advised him to treat the matter as the usual “hogwash”. He has however reneged on that advice saying matters of ‘homicide’ cannot be taken lightly.
Lukwago has since rewritten to police seeking permission to hold a stakeholders meeting on 16.01.2014.
It waits to be seen how IGP General Kayihura will respond to Lukwago.
Below is what Lukwago posted on social media:
As you might have noticed, the Police Spokesperson, Judith Nabakooba issued a press release which was published on the police website and timeline, moreover at a very awkward hour on Sunday 5th January, wherein it was inter-alia alleged that there are certain subversive elements who are plotting to Kidnap me or my deputy or members of my family. I unequivocally demanded that the Inspector General of Police doeth furnish the nation with details of the plot and cause the apprehension of the culprits. Some of you friends have, however, sent me messages suggesting that I shouldn’t be bothered by the said statement but simply treat it as the usual hogwash from our police force. With utmost respect and humility I beg to disagree with that idea as issues relating to homicide cannot be treated lightly. My position still stands that the IGP must come out clean.
