Former Uganda Christian University holding midfielder Nelson Ssempagara scored a brace on his debut as FUFA Big League side The Saints FC trounced Uganda Cup winners and Uganda’s CAF Confederations Cup representatives SC Victoria University 3-1 in a friendly match played on Thursday 23 January 2014 at Namboole National Stadium’s outside turf starting 10.00am local time.
Former Bugerere County skipper netted in the opening minutes from a neatly executed free kick from the edge of the box after pacy forward Farouk Kawooya was fouled and later capitalized on a Godfrey Buni assist to hand The Saints an early lead as the game head for a breather.
On resumption, SCVU who lay second after the FSL first round fixtures pulled back one in the 5oth minute and youngster Benzema Kitatta extended the Saints’ the lead with twenty minutes to the end of the match, the former Mukono Pirates forward composing himself to sail home the final goal of the game.
SCVU on their side created a few chances to equalize both goals but all the chances were put to waste.
SCVU will camp in Nairobi, Kenya, ahead of their first leg clash against DR Congo’s Don Bosco in the preliminary round next month.
“We shall have a few matches in Nairobi and hopefully against the Kenya Tusker League champions Gor Mahia on our way as we travel to DR Congo,” Leon Ssenyange, the club’s Media Manager, revealed.
While SC Victoria University will be making their debut in International football, Don Bosco FC, considered the ‘B team’ of giants TP Mazembe, will be trying their luck again after falling to South Africa’s SuperSport United last year.
