NRM secretary General Amama Mbabazi has signed a petition endorsing President Yoweri Museveni as the sole party candidate in the 2016 general elections.

Although Mbabazi had initially indicated his interest in contesting for the presidency, he has seemingly abandoned his bid and supported a petition now signed by 204 NRM Members of Parliament.

He appears as number 202 on the list of petitioners.  Additional signatures have also been appended by Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, Buliisa county MP Stephen Biraahwa Mukitale, Kibuku county MP Saleh Kamba and Jonam County MP Fred Jachan Omach.

Mbabazi However stated earlier that his bid for the presidency will be limited to the event that President Yoweri Museveni is standing down.

According to a press statement released yesterday by the mover of the motion Evelyn Anite, the resolutions signed were to support the President to continue leading and facilitating the country on its take off journey to transformation.

The Mps appealed and urged the President to offer himself as a presidential candidate and NRM flag bearer in the 2016 General Elections.

The signed resolution discouraged some senior Leaders within the party with presidential ambitions from pursuing schemes that compromise party cohesion, unity, breeds factionalism and instead urged them to use established party procedures in an open manner.

  1. Mze gets stronger as he grows older. Strange, isn’t it? Gilbert Bukenya has to leave NRM to contest for presidency.

    1. He is late, he should go by yesterday if he wants to create disunity that will breed instability in the country. Better the devil you know
