Ugandan referees are set to benefit from the visit of two UK based officials Janie Frampton and David Frampton who are in the country to help the area of refereeing. Under their company- Sports Officials Consultancy David and Janie will meet the FUFA Match assessors numbering to 68, seniors referees and instructors, a communication from FUFA reveals.

The duo has already met with the FUFA president Engineer Moses Magogo and CEO Edgar Watson who welcomed the idea. The consultancy firm brings together sports officials for purposes of development and fair officiation in various sports disciplines. It is not restricted to football only. The country director (Uganda) of the Sports officials Consultancy Yusuf Awuye coordinated the visit of the two officials. Janie is a former FIFA referee while David is an FA Regional Referee coach.

Their visit also comes following the launch of the referees’ academy in Uganda at Kyambogo University, International University of East Africa and Victoria University.

‘We are targeting students between the ages of 6-14 so that we interest them into football and refereeing’ said Awuye who retired from refereeing in 2006 after 13 years of long service.

Awuye believes that involving young people will help to give them the chance to love refereeing.  It is a pilot project in Africa that was blessed by the Confederation of African football (CAF).

The FUFA CEO Edgar Watson was grateful to the duo for coming to Uganda and pass on necessary information to the referees.

‘This course will help many referees, assessors and instructors. It is important that they make use of the opportunity’ said Watson.

The FUFA President was happy to receive the officials. He said the visit has come at the right time when FUFA is working on the referees’ manual.

‘The visit has come at the right time. We want to improve our referees and train instructors in Uganda’ said Magogo shortly after discussing developmental issues with the duo.

The course is ongoing at FUFA house in Mengo and will continue tomorrow when the senior referees will be lectured as well.
