Uganda President Yoweri Museveni has this afternoon bid Bishop Deogratius Muganwa Byabazaire farewell at Hoima Catholic Diocese.
Speaking at the Mass held for the burial ceremony of His Lordship Byabazaire, the President commended the departed Bishop for choosing celibate life over material wealth.
“From what I have gathered, Bishop Byabazaire was a good Shepherd. He was from a rich family but chose to go for Priesthood. As you know, Priest life is not endowed with many material resources. In the Bible it is said, how do you love God you’ve never seen yet you hate your neighbor? That is fake Christianity,” -he said.
He further commended the departed Bishop for loving people. The President speaking in a mixture of Runyoro, Runyankole and English said, “It seems Bishop Byabazaire loved you people too. It is a pity I didn’t link with him. I spend most of the time doing God’s work but through serving the people , taking them out of poverty. But I know one of the girls of the family who we studied with and later joined Mary Hill High School, Mbarara.
The President urged the mammoth crowd who turned to pay their last respects to follow the Bishop’s guidance on household incomes.
“We live in the world and God takes us back home. What have you done of value in the world?”- the President sough to stimulate the audience’s mindsets to work hard.
He promised to return to Hoima to guide residents on household wealth.
Bishop Bainomugisha Lambert, Apostolic Administrator of Hoima Diocese, thanked the President for contributing to the treatment of late Bishop Byabazaire.
“I wish to express our gratitude towards your contribution to the late Bishop’s medical treatment. Wish you God’s choicest blessings.
