Uganda’s High Court Judge Yasin Nyanzi has suspended his ruling on the controversial impeachment of Erias Lukwago, the embattled Kampala city lord mayor following an earlier ruling by the court of appeal.
Justice Nyanzi was expected to deliver his rulingMonday afternoon on whether or not to continue hearing Lukwago’s main application for a judicial review of the KCCA tribunal report.
However, Justice Steven Kavuma of the court of appeal on the same day overturned an earlier high court ruling by Justice Lydia Mugambe, which reinstated Lukwago to office. In his ruling, Kavuma also stayed all proceedings in the High Court arising from application No.362 of 2013 including an application, which Justice Nyanzi was set to determine.
In his ruling, Kavuma said “an interim order is issued staying all proceedings in the High Court arising from the above orders or from any application under Miscellaneous Cause 362 of 2013 until hearing and determination of the main application,”.
He also said the interim order restrains Lukwago from performing the functions of the office of the Lord Mayor of Kampala Capital City Authority pending the determination of the main application.
