Uganda Telecom over the weekend rewarded nine lucky customers with prizes ranging from money, GoTV decoders and swanky mobile phones as it launched the Deposit and Win with M-Sente promotion in Kampala.
Mobile money services in Uganda have became more popular than commercial banks with subscribers able to carry out financial transactions using their mobile phones at anytime and anywhere in the country.
Speaking at the launch of the promotion, Peter Kakaire, the Head of M-Sente at Uganda Telecom said, Uganda telecom will give 100 lucky customers prizes worth millions ranging from cash, GOTV sets and mobile phones every week for the next 10 weeks through the Deposit & Win with M-Sente promotion.
To participate in the promotion, a subscriber simply has to deposit money on his or her M-Sente account to stand a chance to win.
The money deposited can be sent to another person, used to pay utility bills or to buy airtime among others. Eligibility to enter in the weekly draw will be on the basis of deposits made by a particular subscriber within a week,” he said.
A recent FinScope survey conducted in 2009 indicated that about 70 per cent of Ugandans have no access to financial services.
The total value of mobile banking transactions in the first six months of 2013 amounted to Shs8.3 trillion, an increase of 69 per cent over the value in the same period in 2012.
