Parliament is considering establishing a beauty salon and a beauty shop within the precincts of the house to cater for the interests of both female legislators and staff.
The pledge was made by The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga on the eve of the International Women’s day marked globally on March 8th. She was addressing female staff of Parliament
This year International Women’s day will be marked under the theme; “Equality for Women is Progress for all.”
Kadaga says the facility would cater for legislators and staff whose busy schedules eat into the time they would spend beautifying themselves. They will be able to access jewelry, makeup and other salon services without going through a hustle, Kadaga added.
She says that women in parliament often need such facilities after using the gym. They however have been accessing the service from outside parliament further eating into the limited time available to them.
In another move to encourage emancipation of women, Parliament is encouraging women to apply for driver positions in Parliament saying until now women have shunned the jobs in the transport sector.
