The Local Organising Committee of the 3rd edition of the Africa Cross Country championships that are set for March 16 at Kololo Ceremonial grounds have left many Ugandans red-faced after insisting fans would have to part with a hefty Sh30,000 to access the pavilion.
On Monday evening, national selector Abdallah Muhammmed announced the final selections that took place over the weekend in Bukwo led by loaded Moses Kipsiro, Uganda’s top cross country runner in the senior men event with a silver medal in the 2009 World Cross Country meet in Amman Jordan but to the dismay of many, the tickets were perceived as overpriced.
“Entrance at the Kololo independence grounds will be sh30,000 for the pavilion for the available 800 sits while standing will be sh10,000 , target is 4,000 due to limited space”, an official statement released by the Uganda Athletics Federations (UAF) reads.
“Ugandans are not used to paying such excessive charges for smaller events like athletics. I actually wonder if any will show,” a renowned sports scribe in town observes.
“Atleast if World champion Stephen Kiprotich was taking part,” he adds.
