SC Victoria University are confident they can overhaul Kampala City Council in the 2013/14 FUFA super league derby today at Namboole Stadium.
SCVU come into the match two points ahead of the defending champions in fifth place in the standings and know a win over their bitter rivals will set them up for a good finish as they seek to catch up with leaders Vipers and URA.
SCVU forward Mathew Odong says that he is confident they will do well in the derby and keep their title hopes alive.
“This is a great chance for us to put things right. If we can win this game it can change everything. It’s a massive game for us against KCCA and one I really love to play in, he told the club’s official website.
“We have been playing well and we have trained well this week for the game. We are hoping for a positive result.”
Odong, has since last month been a frequent feature in Byekwaso’s team, scoring twice so far.
He will start alongside Dan Nsubuga and Muzamiru Mutyaba upfront for Byekwaso’s side while skipper Denis Guma, Muwadda Mawejje and Isaac Muleme coordinate the midfield.
Ali Kimera returns in goal for injury sidelined Benjamin Ochan while Martin Mpuga, Murishid Juuko and Savio Kabugo paly in defence.
For Kampala City Council (KCC), fresh from that 8 – 0 drubbing of Friends of Soccer in the Uganda cup last Friday, it is great news for Coach George ‘Best’ Nsiimbe to welcome back Steven Bengo after close to a month out with a troublesome groin injury, that saw the creative play maker miss several crucial matches for his side.
Nsiimbe is likely to start Salim Magoola in the goal posts with plenty of options at the back line with skipper Fahad Kawooya, the veteran Richard Malinga, Rogers Aloro and Henry Kisekka while the Ntege duo of Isaac and Ivan plus Tom Matsiko are midfield answers with Brian Majwega occupying the left flank, on form Tonny Odour leading the line as Michael Birungi, William Wadri and Herman Wasswa complete the attack line.
Their last league meeting ended in a goalless draw at Lugogo.
