Winning the 63rd annual Beppu-Oita Mainichi Marathon in 2:09:23, an IAAF Silver Label Road Race, in Japan was the biggest win of his career as yet but Abraham Kiplimo intimates it only got better being voted the February Nile Special/Uspa sportsman of the month of February by journalists on Monday.
Kiplimo beat DMark Kobs Rugby Club (320 points), KCCA FC (320), by 35 points and National Darts League champions Prisons with 195 points.
RED Pepper Online Sport got in touch with the 24-year-old Kiplimo, the first Ugandan to win the Beppu-Oita Marathon and his first ever win outside the country and he said it had always been his dream to win an individual Nile Special/Uspa accolade after clinching quite a number as part of Uganda’s national mountain running team.
“It is a big honour to be recognized by journalists individually,” Kiplimo says.
“I learned from my training partner Stephen Kiprotich, the current Olympic and World Champion, he is assisting me with advice,” added the winner. “Maybe if I win more marathons, I could become sportsman of the year, I am confident.”
