Mike Chibita, the Director of Public Prosecutions has preferred fresh charges against two Pakistan nationals accused of gang rapping their housemaid in Kiwatule, Kampala last year.
They are Ahamad Shahbaz and Muhammad Wagas. The duo was arrested last year and charged with aggravated defilement.
However, the DPP has dropped the charges and instead charged them with domestic violence and having carnal knowledge against the order of nature contrary to the Anti Homosexuality Act.
The revised charge sheet was presented today before the city hall court by Joyce Tushabe, the resident state attorney on behalf of the DPP.
Chibita also transferred the file of the suspects from city hall to Buganda Road Court, which is only a few meters away for better management. The suspects who are on remand in Luzira prison are expected to plead to the fresh charges on Friday this week.
Prosecution alleges that the duo together with others still at large between September and December last year, had carnal knowledge with their victim, which is against the order of nature.
Prosecution alleges further that between the same period, the suspects being in a domestic relationship with the victim, got involved in acts of domestic violence bordering on sexual abuse.
The victim, who underwent rehabilitation and attracted sympathy from NGO’s and women activists following her alleged sexual mistreatment by the suspects, was at the time working for the suspects and others still at large as a house maid.
