Malaysians have marched in the capital Kuala Lumpur to voice their opposition to an upcoming visit by US President Barack Obama.

The rally, held outside the US Embassy on Friday, was called by Hizb ut-Tahrir that is an offshoot of an international Islamic network.

“The protesters carried banners and placards reading, “US is axis of evil” and “Reject Obama, World’s No. 1 Terrorist.”

They also shouted slogans such as “God is great” and “Obama is the enemy of the Prophet Muhammad [PBUH].”

Malaysian activists accuse Obama of killing Muslims around the world, particularly in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Obama is scheduled to travel to Southeast Asia and Malaysia at the end of April.

Obama’s week-long trip to the region is part of Washington’s efforts to boost economic, diplomatic and security ties with the regional countries.

His trip to Malaysia, planned from April 26 to 28, will make him the first sitting US president to visit the country in nearly half a century.

Malaysia has been critical of the US policies in recent decades, especially during the tenure of former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad from 1981 to 2003.
