St. Juliana SS – Gayaza are the new champions of Wakiso district after they beat Standard High School Zzana 8-7 on penalties on Sunday to lift the Copa Coca-Cola title at St. John’s SS.
The two sides settled for a goalless draw after regulation time and Standard High School Zzana’s goal keeper, Pius Dibaba, who had saved twice against St. Mary’s SS Kitende in the quarter finals looked a big threat.
But with a strong psychological approach, the Gayaza-based school converted all their eight spots after their goal keeper Hatim Hilbert saved Nicholas Kato’s decisive kick.
St. Mary’s SS Kitende, who have for several years dominated Wakiso football, were ejected in the semi finals and will travel to Gulu as defending champions although they lost the bragging rights having qualified as the third best team. They beat Buddo SS in the third-place playoff 2-0 in the early game.
The national finals will be held in Gulu starting on April 26.
Meanwhile, Kitende’s girls’ team won their category beating London College 3-1 in the final. Both teams will represent Wakiso to the Lira finals.
