Ahead of of the forthcoming Race of Champions Sprint, the first national rally championship (NRC) scoring sprint event this season at Uganda Motorsports Arena Busiika, one of the fastest rising rally drivers in the country Peter Kakaire has been unveiled as Uganda Telecom’s face with a hefty sponsorship deal.
The sponsorship will see Uganda Telecom branding on the car and clothing of Kakaire and his co-driver Edward Kiyingi in this year’s NRC season.
Mr Shailendra, Uganda Telecom’s Chief Commercial Officer, said at the unveiling ceremony at Telephone House in Kampala: “We’re delighted to have the opportunity to support such an inspiring sportsman, which Peter undoubtedly is, in achieving his goals. Peter is a true professional and dedicated sportsman. We’ll be watching his progress closely throughout the Championship and we wish him every success, starting with next weekend’s event.”
Kakaire achieved a career highlight in 2010, winning the Club-man Rally (CRC) championship in a Subaru N4.
Uganda Telecom’s support, which is undisclosed in monetary terms, means that this season he will be able to take his driving career to the next level in the NRC.
Kakaire said: “I am really excited about Uganda Telecom’s sponsorship. Competing in the NRC is very expensive, but Uganda Telecom’s sponsorship gives me the chance to take on the finest drivers in the Championship this year. It has been a long break since my last event in March so I’m planning to use next weekend’s Sprint at Busiika to warm up into things.”
Kakaire developed an interest in rallying about 10 years ago, but his driving career didn’t start until 2008. He finished third in the Super Special Stage of the Source of the Nile Rally and Seventh overall.
