Uganda’s Humphrey Scoops MTV Base’s MAMA Nomination

Over the years, he has dedicated his life to inspiring young people not only in Uganda but all over the world by encouraging them to live purposeful lives through his Reach A Hand Uganda (RAHU) Organization, now it seems his efforts are beginning to pay off.

Humphrey Nabimanya, the host of local TV show “THE MIX UP” has earned himself a nomination by the prestigious MTV Africa Music Awards or MAMAs in the MTV Base Leadership Award category.

The MTV Africa Music Awards KwaZulu-Natal supported by Absolut were established in 2008 by MTV Networks Africa – now to celebrate the most popular contemporary music in Africa.

The MTV Africa Music Awards is returning to MTV Base after a three year absence and is set to take place at the International Convention Centre in Durban on 7 June and will be hosted by Marlon Wayans from the famous Wayan brothers.

Humphrey has been a HIV/Aids activist, advocating for safe sexual behaviour among Ugandan youth.

His MIX UP show on NBS invites role models, celebrities and successful people to inspire the young people.

In 2010, he was recognised by the Young Achiever’s Awards as one of Uganda’s most influential young leaders in the film and television category for his role in shaping young people’s destiny and for advocating for responsible citizenship.

Humphrey has been nominated alongside young African money bags Ashish Thakkar from neighboring Tanzania in the same category.

The 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards will include performances by R&B star Miguel, hi-hop artist French Montana, Nigerian artists Davido, Flavour and Tiwa Savage, as well as South Africa’s Mafikizolo, Uhuru, Oskido and Professor.

Ludwick Marishane (founder CEO of Headboy Industries and is South Africa’s youngest patent-filer), Nigeria’s Toyosi Akerele (CEO of Rise Networks and Dr SandileKubheka, both from South Africa and Nigeria’s leading public and private sector funded social enterprise committed to wholesome youth and education development are the other nominees in the category.

“We are delighted to recognise the achievements of these extraordinary and inspirational young individuals who are working every day to make positive change on the African continent.” Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks Africa said of the nominations.

The winner of the MTV Base Leadership Award is chosen by MTV Base. Voting in the music categories is open at www.mtvbase.com and closes on midnight on 4 June 2014.
