Australia 2-3 Netherlands match report: Depay winner seals Dutch comeback over spirited Australia

GoalHolland followed up their huge win over Spain with a more modest, but just as thrilling, victory over Australia to take full control of Group B.

The Dutch move onto six points and are just about guaranteed a place in the last 16 after goals from Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie and the winner from Memphis Depay.

Tim Cahill struck for a second game running with an incredible – Marco van Basten-esque – volley to level after Robben’s opener and Australia then took the lead briefly through Mile Jedinak’s 54th minute penalty.

But van Persie followed up his brace against Spain with another effort, before Depay finished the match with 22 minutes to go, scoring from a 20-yard effort which keeper Mathew Ryan should have done better with.

Australia, without a point, are just about out and will miss Cahill for their final match with Spain having picked up his second booking of the tournament – Van Persie will also miss the final round of group games having done the same.
