“I can’t believe it. I’ve loved playing for such a big club all my life but I did kind of think the chance of playing for them could come later on in my career.” – Jamal Salim Magoola to an anonymous source.
Jamal Salim, After a fine couple of outings in a couple of Uganda top tier seasons, the KCCA FC goal keeper has signed a four year contract with Sudan giant side El Merreikh worth UGX300 million (US$120,000). Salim Saieed, the El Merreikh Media Officer reveals that Magoola who passed a medical examination will receive UGX70 million (US$30,000) every year for four years besides his monthly salary ranging between UGX5 million to 7.5 million.
Magoola has since acquired Sudanese citizenship for purposes of joining the club since only three players are accepted in the team. He is expected to start training with the team next week ahead of the beginning of the second round of the Sudan Premier League. The Sudanese giants picked interest in the youthful goalkeeper after his outstanding form in the preliminary round of the 2014 CAF Champions League against them.
KCCA FC went on to eject El Merreikh on a 3-2 goal aggregate and Magoola stopped two penalties in the first leg and another in Kampala. However, KCCA FC might not get any return from El merreikh since the player’s two year contract had run out. Peter Kibazo, KCCA FC’s Board member told Red Pepper at the Khartoum Stadium last night that he had met the El Merreikh Club President Jamal Al Wali who said they have nothing to pay the Ugandan club.
Kibazo said the El Merreikh President was well informed of Magoola’s status, but added that the club might pay KCCA FC some small fee. Magoola had reportedly signed a pre-contract with El merreikh in March.
