The fire broke out as students prepared to wind up their evening classes.

Students who spoke on condition of anonymity say they heard a loud bang before the fire broke out.

Fred Mucunguzi, the school’s head teacher, says fire destroyed students property in the dormitory worth millions of shillings.

Mucunguzi says the school has resolved to send the affected students residing in the dormitory home until new accomodation can be arranged. The dormitory housed 66 students.

However, unaffected students will continue with their studies.

Rukungiri District Police Commander Ruhunde Christopher says that the police managed to put out the fire before it could do more damage.

  1. The future of new school dormitory security, should be bolted on to
ensure the safety of people and protection of physical property

  2. Naive thinking of the headteachers.
How can you send some students and others remind learning yet they pay the same amount .

  3. Perpetuators who carry out such actions should be brought to justice. This attack on our future as for Uganda as whole. Both education and children are future. These thugs are naive and head teachers must campaign against such barbarism. Owners and head of school should set out plan to make sure everyone is safe. They should hire security guards, install outdoor lights and alarms in place. For parents have to look into security before they enroll their children in school.
