Six Held Over Treason

The Special Investigations Unit-SIU is holding six men accused of treason. Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson identifies the treason suspects as Michael Okuna Otutunu, Oruma, Kenneth Okello, Captain Michael Achelam, King Imata Michael and Bosco lapak.

The suspects are currently being held at the Special Investigations Unit in Kireka pending the sanctioning of their charge sheet.

According to Enanga, the suspects are members of the Godly Resistance Army, a new rebel group which started recruiting in West Nile region in October 2013 before expanding to Acholi and Northern regions and was moving towards Teso.

Enanga explains that Godly Resistance Armyis mainly composed of former LRA combatants led by Michael Okuna, an LRA deserter and Francis Oloya, the chairperson of Awera boda-boda stage in Gulu.

He says that upon his return from the bush, Okuna disguised himself as a witchdoctor and started using his shrine to recruit LRA returnees, deserters and UPDF veterans amongst others. Enanga says they are investigating reports that the suspects had started a training camp in Kitgum district with funding from foreign countries.

Enaga says they are also investigating reports that some members of government security agencies are involved in the rebel recruitment exercise
