Head Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic told reporters on Monday that since the SC Covilha midfielder will have a match on August 30, they have decided he connects straight to Mauritania. The Coach said he expects all the other professional players to join the team before they depart for Mauritania.

Two players who feature for Kenyan League Champions Gor Mahia, Godfrey Walusimbi and Geoffrey Kizito together with Tusker FC’s Khalid Aucho arrived last night and joined the team.
However, striker Emmanuel Okwi has been ruled out of the return leg because of a troublesome groin injury. The Young Africans striker was a second half substitute in the Cranes 2-0 win over Mauritania in the first leg clash played at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on July 19th.

In the absence of Okwi, the team’s technical wing has recalled former St George striker Robert Ssentongo to beef-up the attacking department. The team is expected to move to Njeru training centre in Jinja this afternoon to train on the artificial pitch, similar to the one that will be used in Mauritania.

Fred Katende, the team’s media officer said they are expected to travel on Thursday on an Ethiopian Airlines flight ahead of the August 3 match. The Cranes need a win, draw or a 1-0 loss to qualify for the Group stage. The team that qualifies will join Togo, Guinea and the Black Stars of Ghana in the Group.
