Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has reiterated government’s position of neutrality as far as cultural institutions are concerned and has also maintained NRM principle of zero tolerance to sectarianism.

According to a statement issued by Ms Sarah Kagingo, the president’s Special Assistant for Communications, President Museveni made the remarks yesterday while receiving opposition converts from Kasese district who have crossed over to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

The President received the converts, comprising mainly of the top FDC leadership in Kasese district, at his Rwakitura country home in Kirihuura district.

He reminded them that NRM restored cultural Institutions that had been abolished by the Obote regime and also brought about democracy in order to allow wananchi make their own decisions and choices.

He welcomed the converts to NRM and called on them not to be diverted from the main challenge of eradicating poverty in their homes but to concentrate on household income generating activities.

His meeting with the leaders comes close to two weeks after attackers raided the western districts of Ntoroko, Bundibugyo and Kasese leaving close to 100 people dead.

The President further reiterated government’s first principle of no tolerance to sectarianism and urged all Ugandans in general and the Rwenzori region in particular, to respect each other and live in harmony irrespective of their ethnicity.

He told the delegation that the current land issues prevailing in their area is only temporary matter as the country develops and shifts from agriculture to the industrial, services and modernization tempo.

He encouraged members of Kasese delegation to embrace the 1995 manifesto plan that entails modern commercial farming adding that Army Officers will be deployed to all constituencies in the country to oversee the implementation of that plan.

  1. Tolerance to each other regardless of background is a way to sectarianism . We don’t need converting from one political party to another unless those individual don’t have conviction why they joined that party. This is divisive issue hotly contested all over the world, no solution so far and the world is descending in chaos because lack of understanding how to deal with it.

  2. And why should they embrace modern commercial farming when the country is soon
shifting from agriculture to the industrial, services and modernization. Am surprised he didn’t blame the opposition for what happened in Kasese
