University of Pretoria striker Geoffrey Massa is the latest player to join the Ugandan national team Cranes Monday 14th as they prepare for the 2015 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Mauritania.
The South Africa based goal-machine alongside defender Godfrey Walusimbi and midfielder Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito wer excused from the late Monday training session by coach Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic ahead of an international friendly on Tuesday at Namboole against The Flames of Malawi.
With Portugal based William Luwagga Kizito and Moses Oloya also already with the team, only skipper Andrew Mwesigwa and goalie Denis Onyango remain to make it full house and Seattle Sounders’ midfielder Mike Azira has been kept out of the Cranes squad.
The absence of Tony Mawejje and Azira for the game now leaves the Cranes coach Micho Sredojevic with Kenya based Geoffrey Kizito, Muzamil Mutyaba, Ivan Ntege and Allan Kyambadde to choose from in midfield.
The trio arrived yesterday on a day the head coach Sredojevic reduced his squad. Okoth Denis, Isaac Muleme, Saka Mpiima and William Wadri will not be part of the squad in the build up.
Uganda ejected Madagascar in the second round of the qualifiers and need a comfortable win at home before traveling to Mauritania for the return leg. Mauritania benefited after initial qualifiers Equatorial Guinea were disqualified by CAF for using a player who was not eligible to feature for them.
The winner over the two legs will progress to the group stage of qualification to Morocco where they are pooled alongside four-time African champions Ghana, Togo and Guinea.
